Privacy Policy

The short version: ThousandWords works without an account. Your learning progress stays on your device. We don't show ads, we don't sell data, and we only process the minimum needed to run the app: anonymous usage statistics, crash reports, subscription status and — if you use the premium translation feature — the text you ask us to translate.

2. No account needed

ThousandWords does not require registration. There is no user account, no profile, and we do not know your name or email address unless you contact us yourself.

3. Data stored on your device

Your selected course, learning progress, streaks, daily goal and settings are stored locally on your device only. They are not uploaded to our servers. If you delete the app, this data is deleted with it (subject to your device backups, which you control).

4. Data we process

a) Usage statistics and crash reports

The app uses Google Firebase (Analytics, Crashlytics and Performance Monitoring) to understand how the app is used and to find and fix crashes and slowdowns. This involves pseudonymous data such as an app instance identifier, device model, operating system version, approximate region, app events (e.g. "a card was reviewed") and crash traces. We cannot identify you personally from this data.
Legal basis: our legitimate interest in providing a stable, improving app (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

b) Purchases and subscriptions

Purchases are processed by Apple. To activate Premium across your devices we use RevenueCat, which receives an anonymous identifier and purchase receipt information from Apple. We never see your name, address or payment details.
Legal basis: performance of the contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).

c) Premium AI translation

If you use the premium Translate feature, the text you enter, the selected language pair and a device identifier are sent to our server (Google Cloud Functions, region us-central1) and forwarded to Anthropic PBC to generate the translation with the Claude model. We store only a monthly usage counter per device (to enforce the fair-use limit) — your texts and translations are not stored by us. Do not enter personal or sensitive data into the translator.
Legal basis: performance of the contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).

d) App integrity

Calls to our server are protected with Firebase App Check and Apple App Attest, which verify that requests come from a genuine copy of the app. This processes a short-lived device attestation token.
Legal basis: our legitimate interest in preventing abuse (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

e) Reminders

Daily learning reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device. No data leaves your device for this feature.

5. Service providers

Some providers process data in the United States. Where that happens, transfers rely on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and/or EU standard contractual clauses.

6. Retention

Analytics data is retained by Firebase for a limited period (currently up to 14 months), crash reports for around 90 days. The translation usage counter covers one calendar month. On-device data remains until you delete the app or reset it in settings.

7. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and to object to processing based on legitimate interests. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. To exercise your rights, email hello@arrea.io.

8. Children

The app is suitable for general audiences and does not knowingly collect personal data from children. Purchases require the device owner's App Store account.

9. Changes

We may update this policy as the app evolves. The current version is always available at this page; the date above shows the last revision.

4. Von uns verarbeitete Daten

a) Nutzungsstatistiken und Absturzberichte

Die App verwendet Google Firebase (Analytics, Crashlytics und Performance Monitoring), um zu verstehen, wie die App genutzt wird, und um Abstürze und Leistungsprobleme zu finden und zu beheben. Dabei werden pseudonyme Daten verarbeitet, etwa eine App-Instanz-Kennung, Gerätemodell, Betriebssystemversion, ungefähre Region, App-Ereignisse (z. B. „eine Karte wurde wiederholt") und Absturzprotokolle. Eine Identifizierung Ihrer Person ist uns anhand dieser Daten nicht möglich.
Rechtsgrundlage: unser berechtigtes Interesse an einer stabilen, sich verbessernden App (Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. f DSGVO).

b) Käufe und Abonnements

Käufe werden von Apple abgewickelt. Zur Freischaltung von Premium auf all Ihren Geräten setzen wir RevenueCat ein; RevenueCat erhält von Apple eine anonyme Kennung sowie Kaufbeleg-Informationen. Ihren Namen, Ihre Anschrift oder Ihre Zahlungsdaten erhalten wir zu keinem Zeitpunkt.
Rechtsgrundlage: Erfüllung des Vertrags (Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. b DSGVO).

c) Premium-KI-Übersetzung

Wenn Sie die Premium-Übersetzungsfunktion nutzen, werden der von Ihnen eingegebene Text, das gewählte Sprachpaar und eine Gerätekennung an unseren Server (Google Cloud Functions, Region us-central1) übermittelt und zur Erstellung der Übersetzung mit dem Claude-Modell an Anthropic PBC weitergeleitet. Wir speichern lediglich einen monatlichen Nutzungszähler pro Gerät (zur Durchsetzung der Fair-Use-Grenze) — Ihre Texte und Übersetzungen werden von uns nicht gespeichert. Geben Sie keine personenbezogenen oder sensiblen Daten in den Übersetzer ein.

d) App-Integrität

Aufrufe an unseren Server sind durch Firebase App Check und Apple App Attest geschützt; diese Dienste prüfen, ob Anfragen von einer unveränderten Original-App stammen. Dabei wird ein kurzlebiges Geräte-Attestierungstoken verarbeitet.
Rechtsgrundlage: unser berechtigtes Interesse an der Verhinderung von Missbrauch (Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. f DSGVO).

e) Erinnerungen

Tägliche Lern-Erinnerungen sind lokale Mitteilungen, die auf Ihrem Gerät geplant werden. Für diese Funktion verlassen keine Daten Ihr Gerät.

5. Auftragsverarbeiter und Dienstleister

Einige Anbieter verarbeiten Daten in den USA. Soweit dies geschieht, stützen sich die Übermittlungen auf das EU-US Data Privacy Framework und/oder die EU-Standardvertragsklauseln.

6. Speicherdauer

Analysedaten werden von Firebase für einen begrenzten Zeitraum aufbewahrt (derzeit bis zu 14 Monate), Absturzberichte etwa 90 Tage. Der Übersetzungs-Nutzungszähler umfasst jeweils einen Kalendermonat. Auf dem Gerät gespeicherte Daten verbleiben dort, bis Sie die App löschen oder sie in den Einstellungen zurücksetzen.

7. Ihre Rechte

Nach der DSGVO haben Sie das Recht auf Auskunft, Berichtigung, Löschung, Einschränkung der Verarbeitung und Datenübertragbarkeit sowie das Recht, einer auf berechtigten Interessen beruhenden Verarbeitung zu widersprechen. 8. Kinder

Die App richtet sich an ein allgemeines Publikum und erhebt wissentlich keine personenbezogenen Daten von Kindern. Käufe setzen das App-Store-Konto des Geräteinhabers voraus.

4. Datos que tratamos

a) Estadísticas de uso e informes de errores

La aplicación utiliza Google Firebase (Analytics, Crashlytics y Performance Monitoring) para entender cómo se usa la aplicación y para detectar y corregir fallos y problemas de rendimiento. Para ello se tratan datos seudonimizados, como un identificador de instancia de la aplicación, el modelo de dispositivo, la versión del sistema operativo, la región aproximada, eventos de la aplicación (p. ej., «se ha repasado una tarjeta») y trazas de errores. Estos datos no nos permiten identificarle personalmente.
Base jurídica: nuestro interés legítimo en ofrecer una aplicación estable y en constante mejora (art. 6.1.f del RGPD).

b) Compras y suscripciones

Las compras las gestiona Apple. Para activar Premium en todos sus dispositivos utilizamos RevenueCat, que recibe de Apple un identificador anónimo e información del recibo de compra. En ningún momento vemos su nombre, su dirección ni sus datos de pago.

c) Traducción con IA (Premium)

Si utiliza la función de traducción premium, el texto que introduce, el par de idiomas seleccionado y un identificador de dispositivo se envían a nuestro servidor (Google Cloud Functions, región us-central1) y se remiten a Anthropic PBC para generar la traducción con el modelo Claude. Solo almacenamos un contador de uso mensual por dispositivo (para aplicar el límite de uso razonable); no almacenamos sus textos ni sus traducciones. No introduzca datos personales ni sensibles en el traductor.

d) Integridad de la aplicación

Las llamadas a nuestro servidor están protegidas con Firebase App Check y Apple App Attest, que verifican que las solicitudes provienen de una copia auténtica de la aplicación. Para ello se trata un token de atestación del dispositivo de corta duración.
Base jurídica: nuestro interés legítimo en prevenir abusos (art. 6.1.f del RGPD).

e) Recordatorios

Los recordatorios diarios de estudio son notificaciones locales programadas en su dispositivo. Para esta función ningún dato sale de su dispositivo.

5. Proveedores de servicios

Algunos proveedores tratan datos en Estados Unidos. Cuando esto ocurre, las transferencias se amparan en el Marco de Privacidad de Datos UE–EE. UU. y/o en las cláusulas contractuales tipo de la UE.

6. Plazos de conservación

Firebase conserva los datos analíticos durante un periodo limitado (actualmente hasta 14 meses) y los informes de errores unos 90 días. El contador de uso de traducciones abarca un mes natural. Los datos almacenados en el dispositivo permanecen hasta que elimine la aplicación o los restablezca en los ajustes.

7. Sus derechos

En virtud del RGPD, usted tiene derecho de acceso, rectificación, supresión, limitación del tratamiento y portabilidad de los datos, así como derecho a oponerse al tratamiento basado en intereses legítimos. 8. Menores

Memorizziamo soltanto un contatore mensile di utilizzo per dispositivo (per applicare il limite di uso corretto) — i Suoi testi e le traduzioni non vengono memorizzati da noi. Non inserisca dati personali o sensibili nel traduttore.

4. Dados que tratamos

a) Estatísticas de utilização e relatórios de falhas

A app utiliza o Google Firebase (Analytics, Crashlytics e Performance Monitoring) para compreender como a app é utilizada e para detetar e corrigir falhas e lentidões. Tal envolve dados pseudonimizados, como um identificador da instância da app, o modelo do dispositivo, a versão do sistema operativo, a região aproximada, eventos da app (por exemplo, «um cartão foi revisto») e registos de falhas. Não conseguimos identificá-lo pessoalmente a partir destes dados.
Fundamento jurídico: o nosso interesse legítimo em disponibilizar uma app estável e em constante melhoria (art. 6.º, n.º 1, alínea f) do RGPD).

b) Compras e subscrições

As compras são processadas pela Apple. Para ativar o Premium em todos os seus dispositivos utilizamos a RevenueCat, que recebe da Apple um identificador anónimo e informações do recibo de compra. Nunca vemos o seu nome, morada ou dados de pagamento.
Fundamento jurídico: execução do contrato (art. 6.º, n.º 1, alínea b) do RGPD).

c) Tradução premium com IA

Se utilizar a funcionalidade premium de tradução, o texto que introduz, o par de línguas selecionado e um identificador do dispositivo são enviados para o nosso servidor (Google Cloud Functions, região us-central1) e reencaminhados para a Anthropic PBC para gerar a tradução com o modelo Claude. Armazenamos apenas um contador mensal de utilização por dispositivo (para aplicar o limite de utilização razoável) — os seus textos e traduções não são armazenados por nós. Não introduza dados pessoais ou sensíveis no tradutor.

d) Integridade da app

As chamadas ao nosso servidor estão protegidas com o Firebase App Check e o Apple App Attest, que verificam que os pedidos provêm de uma cópia genuína da app. Tal envolve o tratamento de um token de atestação do dispositivo de curta duração.

e) Lembretes

Os lembretes diários de aprendizagem são notificações locais agendadas no seu dispositivo. Nenhum dado sai do seu dispositivo para esta funcionalidade.

5. Prestadores de serviços

Alguns prestadores tratam dados nos Estados Unidos. Nesses casos, as transferências assentam no EU–US Data Privacy Framework e/ou nas cláusulas contratuais-tipo da UE.

6. Conservação

Os dados de análise são conservados pelo Firebase durante um período limitado (atualmente até 14 meses) e os relatórios de falhas durante cerca de 90 dias. O contador de utilização de traduções abrange um mês civil. Os dados no dispositivo permanecem até que elimine a app ou os reponha nas definições.

7. Os seus direitos

8. Crianças

A app é adequada ao público em geral e não recolhe conscientemente dados pessoais de crianças. As compras exigem a conta App Store do proprietário do dispositivo.

2. Geen account nodig

ThousandWords vereist geen registratie. Er is geen gebruikersaccount en geen profiel, en wij kennen uw naam of e-mailadres niet, tenzij u zelf contact met ons opneemt.

4. Gegevens die wij verwerken

a) Gebruiksstatistieken en crashrapporten

De app gebruikt Google Firebase (Analytics, Crashlytics en Performance Monitoring) om te begrijpen hoe de app wordt gebruikt en om crashes en vertragingen op te sporen en te verhelpen. Hierbij worden gepseudonimiseerde gegevens verwerkt, zoals een identificator van de app-instantie, het apparaatmodel, de versie van het besturingssysteem, de globale regio, app-gebeurtenissen (bijv. "een kaart is herhaald") en crashgegevens. Wij kunnen u aan de hand van deze gegevens niet persoonlijk identificeren.
Rechtsgrondslag: ons gerechtvaardigd belang bij het aanbieden van een stabiele, zich verbeterende app (art. 6 lid 1 sub f AVG).

b) Aankopen en abonnementen

Aankopen worden verwerkt door Apple. Om Premium op al uw apparaten te activeren gebruiken wij RevenueCat, dat van Apple een anonieme identificator en gegevens van het aankoopbewijs ontvangt. Wij zien nooit uw naam, adres of betaalgegevens.
Rechtsgrondslag: uitvoering van de overeenkomst (art. 6 lid 1 sub b AVG).

c) Premium AI-vertaling

Als u de premium vertaalfunctie gebruikt, worden de door u ingevoerde tekst, het gekozen talenpaar en een apparaatidentificator naar onze server gestuurd (Google Cloud Functions, regio us-central1) en doorgestuurd naar Anthropic PBC om de vertaling met het Claude-model te genereren. Wij slaan alleen een maandelijkse gebruiksteller per apparaat op (om de fair-use-limiet te handhaven) — uw teksten en vertalingen worden niet door ons opgeslagen. Voer geen persoonlijke of gevoelige gegevens in de vertaler in.
Rechtsgrondslag: uitvoering van de overeenkomst (art. 6 lid 1 sub b AVG).

d) App-integriteit

Aanroepen naar onze server worden beschermd met Firebase App Check en Apple App Attest, die verifiëren dat verzoeken afkomstig zijn van een authentiek exemplaar van de app. Hierbij wordt een kortlevend attestatietoken van het apparaat verwerkt.
Rechtsgrondslag: ons gerechtvaardigd belang bij het voorkomen van misbruik (art. 6 lid 1 sub f AVG).

e) Herinneringen

Dagelijkse leerherinneringen zijn lokale meldingen die op uw apparaat worden ingepland. Voor deze functie verlaten geen gegevens uw apparaat.

5. Dienstverleners

Sommige dienstverleners verwerken gegevens in de Verenigde Staten. Waar dat gebeurt, zijn de doorgiften gebaseerd op het EU–US Data Privacy Framework en/of de EU-standaardcontractbepalingen.

6. Bewaartermijnen

Analysegegevens worden door Firebase gedurende een beperkte periode bewaard (momenteel maximaal 14 maanden), crashrapporten circa 90 dagen. De gebruiksteller voor vertalingen beslaat één kalendermaand. Gegevens op het apparaat blijven bewaard totdat u de app verwijdert of deze in de instellingen reset.

7. Uw rechten

Op grond van de AVG heeft u recht op inzage, rectificatie, wissing, beperking van de verwerking, gegevensoverdraagbaarheid en het recht om bezwaar te maken tegen verwerking op basis van gerechtvaardigde belangen. 8. Kinderen

De app is geschikt voor een algemeen publiek en verzamelt niet bewust persoonsgegevens van kinderen. Aankopen vereisen het App Store-account van de eigenaar van het apparaat.

4. Данные, которые мы обрабатываем

в) Премиум-перевод с использованием ИИ

Мы храним только месячный счётчик использования по каждому устройству (для соблюдения лимита добросовестного использования) — ваши тексты и переводы у нас не хранятся. г) Целостность приложения
